スカンジナビア発、年二回刊行のインテリア雑誌『ARK JOURNAL』の第12号。世界中の美しい住居とそこに住む人々の物語は、空間がただ美しい家具やアートを置くこと以上に哲学やパーソナリティの表現であることがわかる。2019年にデンマークの有名インテリア雑誌のエディター、スタイリストを長年勤めるメッテ・バーフォード（Mette Barfod）が創刊した本誌は「私たちの周りの空間、そこに置くオブジェクト、そのオブジェクトの作り手」をテーマにしている。建築、デザイン、アートの相互作用にスカンジナビアの価値観や美学を通してフォーカスする。本号は、3種類の表紙でお届けする。

本号では、「こだわり（obsession）」の持つ静かな力に思いを巡らせる。その力とは、保護、保存、完成へと駆り立てる、創造と変化を促すものである。こだわりや執着は、育みを与え、限界点を広げ、アイデアを実現へと導く「愛」となりうる。こだわりを受け入れる人にとって、執着するということは理解への架け橋となり、時代を超え、奥深く美しい永続的なものへと、作り手と創造性を高めていく。本号では、音楽、デザイン、インテリア、アート、建築の分野において、こだわりの力によって情熱と信頼性を結びつけた人々が歩んだ創作の旅路を讃える。

HOMES: ユトランド半島南部の家を、歴史の感覚を植え付けるべく元の自然な姿に戻す。また、アメリカのモダニズムを代表する建築家であるフィリップ・ジョンソン（Philip Johnson）の家が、忍耐、決意、謙虚さをもって修復される。喜びに満ちた様子が見られる実験的なニューヨークのロフトと、1930年代デンマークのビーチハウスに見られるこだわりのニュアンスが現れる。

INTERVIEW: ポルトガル人建築家であるアルヴァロ・シザ（Álvaro Siza）は、70年におよぶ建築にまつわる活動や実践を通じて、自身の建築言語の骨格を築いた。それは、記憶、潜在意識、そして文脈や場を密に読み解くことから描き出された、根本的かつ深く心を動かすものである。

INSERT: 5年にわたり、独立系非商業音楽プラットフォームである「ブロディ・セッションズ（Brodie Sessions）」は、他にない建築空間で音楽を制作・主催し、アナログフィルムでその場を撮影してきた。丹精込めて作られてきた音楽的な多くの瞬間に敬意を表す特集である。

LIVING ARCHITECTURE: フランス後期モダニズム建築の傑作である「ヴィラ・ウェイル（Villa Weil）」は、建築を純粋な表現で形にした作品であり、田園風景の中にその本質が在る抽象的なオブジェであり、文化プロジェクトとして保存され共有される存在である。

DESIGN: ニューヨーク在住のドイツ系イタリア人の建築家、彫刻家、デザイナーであるウンベルト・ベラルディ・リッチ（Umberto Bellardi Ricci）によって曲げられ、折り畳まれ、カーブを描いた金属の彫刻的なフォルムは、ニューヨークのランドマーク的なペントハウスで演出され、インテリアや街並みの角ばった原型がインスピレーション源となっており、作品に反映されている。

ART: ニューヨーク、ギャリソンに建つ、アメリカのパイオニア的存在である工業デザイナーのラッセル・ライト（Russel Wright）が設計したモダニズム建築「マニトガ（Manitoga）」。本特集は、アルゴンキン語で「偉大な精神の宿される地」を意味するこの建築へ向けた詩的で儚い賞賛として、アーティストと写真家がその場所に宿る魂を一瞬のしぐさで捉える。

CASE STUDY: 静寂に包まれ穏やかなインテリアの中で、一見シンプルに見えるラインと木の微妙な色調が、フォルムとバランス、そして豊かな荘厳さという価値あるパラドックスについて深い思考を促す。

ESSAY: ヤン・グライエ（Jan Gleie）は、夢のようなイメージを捉えた自身のフォトエッセイのプロセスについて語る。個人的であり、ほぼ無作為ともいえるその写真選びは、雰囲気や幼少期の思い出によって導かれたものである。

本誌は単なる出版物ではない。スカンジナビアのデザインや建築を定義づける美しさとシンプルさを讃えたものを形にしているのである。

INTERVIEW
Across seven decades of practice, the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza has framed a language of his own, elemental and deeply moving, drawing on memories, the subconscious and a close reading of context and place.

INSERT
For five years, the independent and non-commercial music platform Brodie Sessions has created and hosted music in unique architectural spaces and captured them on analogue film. A tribute to lovingly crafted musical moments.
