スイスのタイポグラファー、マックス・ミーディンガー（Max Miedinger）が手がけた書体「Helvetica」の歴史と影響を辿る作品集。

1957年、ミーディンガーは「Haas Grotesk」を考案した。1960年以降「Helvetica」と改名されたこの書体は、やがて世界でもっとも広く使用される書体のひとつとなった。本書は、当時のスイス・タイポグラフィが提唱した「ザッハリヒカイト（Sachlichkeit／客観性）」の神話を体現するこの書体に光を当てる。
