イギリス人家具デザイナー、ジェラルド・サマーズ（Gerald Summers）、マージョリー・ブッチャー（Marjorie Butcher）が1931年にロンドンで開業した「メーカーズ・オブ・シンプル・ファニチュア（Makers of Simple Furniture）」社の作品集。

1931年の設立以来1940年まで、同社は何百もの独創的なプライウッド・デザインを生み出し、英国におけるモダン・インテリアの概念を決定づける一助となった。本書は、マージョリー・ブッチャーの生き生きとした回想と、写真、私信、デザイン、工房の資料など、これまで未発表であった多くの資料をもとに、象徴的な名作「Bent Plywood Armchair」で知られる家具メーカーが築いた功績をたどる。

本書は、「グラハム美術高等研究財団（Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.）」の助成により刊行された。

In 1931, the English designer Gerald Summers and his partner Marjorie Butcher opened their business, Makers of Simple Furniture, in London. Until 1940, the company produced hundreds of ingenious plywood designs that helped define the idea of the modern interior in Great Britain. Based on Marjorie Butcher’s vivid recollections and a wealth of unpublished material&mdashincluding photographs, personal correspondence, designs and workshop documents&mdashthe book traces the groundbreaking achievements of the furniture company best known for the iconic Bent Plywood Armchair.
