「Bar Brutal」について語るとき、私たちは何を語っているのか。本書は、世界中で愛される酒場のひとつである同店のポートレートであり、ナチュラルワイン・ムーブメントにおいて「Bar Brutal」が果たしてきた形成的な役割を描き出す。バルセロナから世界へと発信され、同時に世界からも影響を受けながら育まれてきた、その相互的な関係性を捉えている。2013年に誕生した同店は、伝説的なワイン生産者、ソムリエ、シェフ、ミュージシャン、そして放埒な飲み手たちが集ってきた場所である。彼らは、終わりのないパーティーと、ワインに対する親密な知識とのあいだで、何かが形づくられつつあるという感覚を共有していた。

本書をまとめたのは、元「Apartamento」編集者であり、長年「Bar Brutal」に通い続けてきたマデレイン・ウィリス（Madeleine Willis）である。本書は、同店が2013年以来、バルセロナとワインの広大な世界に注ぎ込んできたエネルギーを映し出し、幸福で混沌とした、広がり続ける10年以上の営みを祝福している。

The book combines multiple, intersecting strands that veer between structure and chaos, reflecting the bar’s own underlying methodology. At the centre of the work is Bar Brutal’s first official cookbook, featuring 26 recipes, while collage sections merge archival imagery with the stories—or revelations—of 80-odd contributors, including Stefano Colombo, Joan Ramón Escoda, Christian Tschida, Nuria Renom, John Wurdeman, Thierry Puzelat, LCD Soundsystem, Peggy Gou, 2manydjs, Gilles Peterson, Aziz Ansari, Alice Feiring, and many more. Photo essays by Adrià Cañameras, Nacho Alegre, and Yago Castromil document the dinners, wines, people, and spaces that bring the place alive by day and night, while four written chapters anchor the story in time and place, tracing the bar’s evolution. Brought together by Madeleine Willis, former Apartamento editor and long-time Brutal regular, the work reflects the same energy that Brutal has injected into Barcelona and the wide world of wine since 2013 and celebrates over a decade of happy, chaotic, expansive service.
