本書は、ウエストウッドとマクラーレンが1950年代に、カントリーミュージックの総本山「グランド・オール・オプリ（Grand Ole Opry）」へ赴くヒルビリーの吸血鬼たちのために制作したという架空のコレクション「Hillbilly Heaven」を紹介する、けばけばしくも挑発的なルックブックとして構成されている。安全ピンの牙から、パンク仕様のミニー・パール風パールネックレスに至るまで、本書には、そのコレクションに含まれる悪趣味で華々しい品々の数々が収められている。さらに、マクラーレンによる序文と、吸血鬼版Vogueとも言うべき架空雑誌『Vampire Vogue』の失われた号から掲載レビューの再録も併せて収録されている。

本書は、1970年代にアメリカのロカビリーやロッカー文化を再解釈したウエストウッドとマクラーレンの功績を下敷きにしつつ、多くのカントリーミュージックに付きまとう、健全で敬虔なキリスト教的イメージを倒錯的に変形したものでもある。同時に、ファッションデザイナーたちが過去を略奪するように引用してきたあり方そのものを風刺するように「もし過去のほうが、ファッションから盗み返していたとしたら？」と問う。

作者によるオリジナル作品と、これまででもっとも独創的な文章によって構成された本書は、華美で不穏、滑稽でありながらどこか薄気味悪さを漂わせる一冊となっている。

Most of all, it’s a parody of the way fashion designers pirate the past for inspiration, as it poses the question: What if the past stole from fashion the way fashion steals from the past? The Shithole Opry Collector’s Guide combines McCormack’s original artwork with his most original writing to date: the result is spectacular and sinister, sidesplitting and spine-chilling.
