タイトルが示す通り、本書そのものがカメラになるユニークな一冊。ポップアップブックとして楽しめるだけでなく、組み立てることで実際に撮影可能なピンホールカメラへと変化する。紙を折るというシンプルな構造を通して、光の基本原理を体験的に学びながら、自分だけの写真を撮影することができる。

家庭の浴室やクローゼットを暗室として活用し、重曹、インスタントコーヒー、水といった身近な材料を使って写真を現像する方法も紹介。現代の風景を1840年代の写真技術ならではの柔らかなアナログの質感で写し出す。

折りたたまれて収納された4×5インチ判の実用的なピンホールカメラ、遮光バッグ、5枚の印画紙、現像方法の解説に加え、「iPhone」や「Android」対応の露出計アプリも収録。デザインと科学、構造と機能の密接な関係を楽しみながら学べる内容となっている。

本書は2015年に「ニューヨーク近代美術館（The Museum of Modern Art, New York / MoMA）」より刊行された初版をもとに、11年を経て書店でありギャラリー、出版社の「Katherine Small Gallery」による刊行物として新たに復刊された。
