アメリカ人アーティスト、ソル・ルウィット（Sol LeWitt）の作品集。
マサチューセッツ現代美術館（Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art、以下 Mass MoCA）にて2008年に開催された展覧会「Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective」に伴い刊行された本書。本展は、2004年に「イェール大学美術館（Yale University Art Gallery）」の館長ジョック・レイノルズ（Jock Reynolds）と作者との対話を契機に構想され、2007年4月の逝去以前に、イェール大学美術館が作者本人と協働して計画していたものである。作者はその過程で、自身のウォール・ドローイングの相当数と関連アーカイブ一式を同館へ寄贈することを約束していた。しかし、多数のウォール・ドローイングを同時に設置・維持するための十分な空間を同館が有していなかったことから、広大な歴史的捺染工場群を擁し、野心的な長期展示の実績を持つ「マサチューセッツ現代美術館」が会場として提案された。こうして本展は2008年にマサチューセッツ現代美術館で開催され、以降25年にわたり公開される長期回顧展として実現している。
本書は、この画期的な展覧会を背景に、約50年に及ぶ作者の活動を総括する内容で構成されている。キュレーター、美術批評家、ライター、作曲家、アーティストらによる100篇のエッセイと省察を収録し、作品、人物像、思想に多角的に向き合いながら、ミニマル・アートおよびコンセプチュアル・アートの先駆者としての功績を顕彰している。

Published to accompany the landmark retrospective exhibition of Sol LeWitt’s innovative wall drawings on view for 25 years at Mass MoCA and conceived by the Yale University Art Gallery in collaboration with the artist before his death in April 2007, this book celebrates the artist’s illustrious 50-year career. The accessible paperback volume includes a colorful collection of 100 personal essays and meditations on the artist’s work, persona, and philosophy penned by curators, art critics, writers, composers, and artists to honor LeWitt’s legacy as a pioneer of Minimal and Conceptual art. A checklist of the 105 large-scale conceptual drawings included in the exhibition and lists of selected exhibition history and bibliography round out the publication.
