ドイツ人アーティスト、トーマス・バイルレ（Thomas Bayrle）の作品集。本書は、2001年9月12日（日本時間）付の「西日本新聞」紙面をもとに制作されている。
「私は個人と集合的な共同体の間にある関係について考えるのです。それは点と格子の間にあるものと同じであり…体の基本的な構造要素である細胞に似ているのです…この二つの現実にとって有機的である集合体という意味において、初期の頃から私の作品は個人と大量、多数の間にあるあらゆる関係に焦点をあてているのです。」－トーマス・バイルレ（1996年）
作者はマスコミュニケーション、マスメディア、大量生産など、「大量・大衆」に刺激され、魅了されてきた。本や壁紙、グラフィックなどを用いて、大衆社会と個人との間に存在する問題や疑問を実体化するような作品を発表する。雑誌や看板などに多用される英字フォントの名前をタイトルとした本書は、長年取り組んできた主題が、様々な「レイアウト」の中に収められている。

In his work Bayrle has always been inspired and fascinated by “masses” – such as mass communication, mass media and mass production, and he transforms it into various forms like books, wallpapers, graphic, film, etc. In doing so, his work reveals contradiction, the form of organization and the individuals on which the society rests. In Helvetica 12pt, these main subjects are placed in the designed white‘layout’ in a kaleidoscpic change.
