非営利現代美術団体「Art21」が刊行するアーティスト・インタビュー集。本書は同団体にとって『Being An Artist』（2018年）に続く第二作目の対談集であり、人生に内在する偶然性、複雑さ、そして不可知性を通して、いかに芸術や文化の境界が押し広げられていくのかを探っている。
未知なるものとは、定義そのものが不可能な存在である。それは、我々が朝目覚めて一日の行方に思いを巡らせるとき、世界が変化し、発展し、やがて朽ちていく様子を目にするとき、あるいは危険や夢、好奇心のなかに身を置くときなど、日常のあらゆる場面に現れる。未知は予期せぬ瞬間に、多様な形と姿をもって立ち現れるのである。では私たちは、それにどう向き合うのか。「Art21」は、その答えをアーティストたちに見出そうとしている。
本書は、21世紀を代表するアーティストたちへ行った20年以上にわたるインタビューから編まれたものであり、「未知との遭遇」をめぐる刺激的で示唆に富んだ対話を収録している。18名の革新的な現代アーティストによる作品と言葉を通して構成された本書は、不可知なるものと向き合うためのガイドであり、伴走者となる一冊である。
編集は「Art21」でキュレーターを務めるジュレル・ルイス（Jurrell Lewis）が担当。「Gregory R. Miller & Co.」との共同出版により刊行された。
